Discourse Pavilion
Final year project
BA (Hons) | 2020
The primary objective of the community health center is to foster a culture of well-being and healthy living among students and members associated with the University of Huddersfield Community. To achieve this goal, the center employs two distinct event spaces, each aligned with a specific social theme. One of these spaces is dedicated to the art of debating and is aptly named the "Debate Chamber," while the other comprises small, inviting social areas where groups can engage in discussions on various topics in a serene and welcoming atmosphere.
Debate Chamber: The Debate Chamber stands as a separate structure, providing an ideal setting for students to come together and deliberate on pre-selected topics. The chamber, designed with an open-plan layout, is partially submerged into the ground, allowing for a unique architectural expression. Additionally, the walls within the chamber can serve as a canvas to showcase architectural work created by the students, fostering an environment that encourages creativity and collaboration.
Social Areas: In contrast, the Social Areas are thoughtfully designed to offer students a range of distinctive sitting spaces conducive to socializing and relaxation, offering a pleasant respite from the academic demands of the BHB (presumably the university's main academic building). These areas exude a casual ambiance, promoting a sense of comfort and ease, facilitating meaningful interactions and connections among students in a relaxed environment.
